Real Estate Trends for 2020

Image
Wow, 2019 was quite a year for the U.S. housing market. Median home prices went all the way up to $316,000—a record high! 1  Will 2020 bring more of the same results? How will the housing market shake out in the current economic climate? Whether you’re selling, buying or staying put, here are the 2020 real estate trends you need to know! Real Estate Trend #1: Home Prices Are Still Rising Slowly Okay, let’s start with home prices. Overall, home prices grew slower in 2019 (3.3%) than in 2018 (5%). Could 3D-Printed Homes Help Affordable Housing?

Could 3D-Printed Homes Help Affordable Housing? (The You Tube Video is Crazy) Share December 17, 2019 The evolving capabilities of 3D printing may help the housing industry respond to the affordable-home crisis. Some organizations now believe the process could be the answer to ramping up affordable housing across the globe. And it could do so quickly—you can print a home in just 24 hours. The 3D printer uses a cement-based material to create textured walls with curved edges. The homes feature two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom.Icon, a construction tech startup in Austin, and a housing nonprofit called New Story unveiled its first two 3D-printed homes that were constructed for low-income families in Tabasco, Mexico. The 500-square-foot homes were printed in just 24 hours. The Tabasco community will serve as a prototype for the potential of using 3D printing to respond to affordable housing shortages. Eventually, the community

Charles Dickens Festival comes to a close in Holly

Image
Geez, it only took three weeks for snow to stick to the ground at the Dickens Festival. So I went out there to take advantage of all the festival had to offer. The photo gallery I did for the Oakland Press is below.  Charles Dickens Festival pictures in Oakland Press  <<< view pictures

Ferndale Ice Festival is an annual Event

Image
I have shot this festival numerous times. This time, was easily the warmest I have ever seen the festival.  At nearly 40 degrees, the ice carvings were starting to pool with water and the urban sleigh ride was pulled by a tractor. Hey, at least they were honest. Here is my gallery for the Oakland Press.   Ferndale Ice Festival picture gallery  <<< Click here

Great things for families to do over the holiday break

I would say that about 20 minutes after kids have finished opening the presents that you worked so hard to provide, you will hear the words.... "I'm bored." Well, Metro Parent Magazine has given some great suggestions on what you can do with your family. I would ad snowboarding, Urban Air in Oxford for a variety of activities and event the Robot Garage in Birmingham if your family likes Lego's. Contact the various places to find out when they are open.  Click Here https://www.metroparent.com/daily/family-fun/family-events/fun-events-for-teens-in-southeast-michigan/

6 Near-Genius Ways to Fool Burglars Into Thinking You’re Home

Image
Your home : You love it, but sometimes you have to leave it. Whether it's the eight hours a day or eight days on a dreamy beach, allowing your biggest investment to fend for itself can be stressful. And it's a legit concern; when your home looks empty, break-ins happen. A lot. Ugh. You  could  deter burglars by never leaving your house again. Or you could do the next best (OK, way better) thing, and just make it look like someone is there all the time. Here's how. #1 Light Up a Room (From the Road) Your parents may still rely on their lighting timer — on at 8 p.m., off at 7 a.m. That old-fashioned option still works, but apps are more fun. They not only turn your lights on and off, but can do so randomly for a more realistic effect. And you can decide to flip on your porch light while sipping a mojito in Fiji. You can Google your options, but one affordable example is the Lutron Caséta Wireless system (about $80 for the device and $55 per switch). You repla

How WE can help the elderly at Christmas

Image
Everyone loves to help out families and kids at Christmas. Well, how about the elderly? the North Oakland County Board of Realtors is collecting both items and money and making runs to select senior care facilities. We all KNOW seniors that are basically forgotten about. Starting from our own families and parents to their friends and friends we have gathered over a lifetime. We can't do everything, but we can all do something. Recently, I started noticing my own cold feet even though the furnace was on. Every senior has cold feet. Go to the dollar store or Kohl's and buy a pair and drop off a six pack for a senior at a local home and say hello if they let you. Ho-Ho-Ho!

The Everything Guide to Selling Your First Home

Image
How to figure out exactly what you want, and how to work with the experts who’ll help you get it. Selling, a famous salesman once said, is essentially a transfer of feelings. You love and cherish your home. You want the next owner to fall in love with it, too — through photos, through words, and through the experience of walking through your front door. But, perhaps most, you want to get the price you want. This isn’t a small task. Selling a home requires work. It requires time. The journey isn’t always easy. There will be frustrations. But when you seal the deal and move on to your next chapter  — wow, what a blissful, boss feeling. Below, we preview and link to each step in your journey.  We’ll discuss how to know what you want (and what your partner wants, if you’re selling together). How to understand the market, and ways to make a plan. And most importantly? How to create relationships with experts and trust them to help you get the job done. Now, let’s talk abou
